Today at Worthing was proper bad like the olden days.

Its probably my fault, but faced with a strong southerly I dug out a vintage Coppello 270 slalom board and a old 2 cam freeride sail. The idea being to play at going fast with my 'new' Garmin gps to record the occasion.

The sail was a bit flat on my RDM mast but with negative outhaul it took a nice enough shape. The board is pretty good if a little long in the nose. Footstraps turned out to be set for a pixie, but I guess thats how we had 'em in the early nineties!

Wind needed to be howling but it was actually a bit light, seems you do need to rig bigger in a southerly. Anyway there was enough to get planing but maybe not win the world speed record back from the kites.

I started out and within 15 yards my beautiful Select speed fin had 20+ strands of string weed trailing behind me. I cleared it and it was back.... cleared it and more arrived... cleared it...more...etc You could never get anywhere inshore or offshore without catching more weed, despite steering, hopping and blasting.

I managed a top speed of 23 knots and that was with a bunch of Worthing Worms hitching a free ride. Just awful, I'm going back to my freestyle fin or 15cm twin fins.
